09/23/2012 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Ryan continues to show consistency with his overall skills. On the mound, he has shown improvements mainly to his secondary pitches. His curveball shows a 1/7 sharp/late action with the ability to throw it for a strike. Ryan has a great feel for his changeup with good glove side run. He can continue to work on his direction landing inline and square towards his target. This creates him to throw across his body which if corrected will improve his pitching grades.

05/20/2012 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Ryan continues to display a good first step in the outfield creating proper angles to the ball. His hands are sure with a clean exchange, continuing to display good life and carry to his throws. Ryan can continue to focus on working behind balls in the air to develop momentum to his target. On the mound, he displays great extension on his throws finishing out in front. Body stays tall and does a good job keeping the ball down. Pitching grades will continue to improve as he works in line with his target, landing square on the ball of his foot. Offensively, Ryan displays a smooth swing with consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. His lower half works well but can improve by developing a stronger load and working on trying to use the opposite field.

08/03/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 1 Ryan is a tall, thin two-way player on the mound and in the OF that will graduate in 2013. Foot speed is near average as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws show life, accuracy, and on line carry to his target but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. Offensively, DeBlaey shows a balance approach as he sits in well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction / adjustments. Off speed pitches are slightly above average, showing as quality pitches as he continues to improve. He throws strikes with all of his pitches, changing speeds well. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
