07/24/2014 - College PREP - Anchorage, AK Ryan is a solid, lean 1B that will graduate in 2015. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying slightly above average hitting abilities through an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, feet are active as he makes the routine plays, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he becomes more aggressive, attacks balls with his feet, and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Ryan has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
