05/15/2011 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Ryan is a solid, athletic, senior SS with good speed. Defensively, Ryan has soft hands, quick / active feet, and he moves well laterally. He centers the ball well, he fields in an athletic position, and his exchange is quick and clean. Ryan has a quick arm action with good carry and consistency to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Ryan can loosen his actions and lengthen his arm action. At the plate, Ryan has an athletic / open stance, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, fast bat speed, and he makes square / consistent contact. Ryan swings in good rhythm and can work the ball gap to gap. Hitting can further improve if Ryan can drive the low pitch and avoid jumping to the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
