07/20/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ryan is a young two-way player on the mound plus at SS with a thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.06 60 time. Feet are active but needs to be aggressive in coming to get, playing through the baseball. He moves well laterally displaying range. Glove action is soft and clean displaying sure hands. Throws show carry and accuracy from a low arm slot as he needs to work on getting rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively, MacFarlane loads well with hands working directly to the baseball, generating bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-81 mph with arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing a plus feel for with arm side run and sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and early break but needs to work on being more consistent. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has potential as he will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
