10/05/2014 - College PREP - Abilene, TX Ryan is a catcher who has a solid build and strong lower 1/2 (5'9"/165). Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. Quick footwork allow him to get around pitches in the dirt taking good angles. He has a clean exchange to throw and puts accurate throws on the bag in as low as 2.06. Offensively, Ryan displays a square setup with good balance. He is selective and has good zone awareness. He utilizes his strong lower 1/2 well to generate torque with pop off of his barrel. Ryan is a skilled player who has tools that will progress nicely.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
