04/07/2013 - College PREP - Tallahassee, FL Ryan is a tall and lanky 3B/RHP who has some power at the plate. This right-handed hitter displays a square setup and simple approach. He is patient and tracks the ball into the zone. By getting his lower 1/2 through, it helps to increase his power at the plate. Defensively, Sims shows good pre-pitch footwork and gets into a square fielding position, fielding the ball out in front. Increasing his arm-strength through a long-toss program will only benefit him at 3rd. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix and delivers from an over-the-top arm slot. He maintains good temp and works downhill, driving off of the rubber. FB ranges from 73-75 mph and shows some downward movement. CB is best off-speed and shows 12/6 shape and gradual break. Ryan projects best at 3B where he should get some looks to advance his game to the next level thanks to his offensive abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
