10/13/2019 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Sam continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. He shows a three pitch mix. Fastball shows good cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 60-62 mph showing 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup sits from 66-67 mph He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.

10/19/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Sam is a RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Sam works from the stretch only and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He stays inline towards the plate and drives his back leg through. Sam works with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 68mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 56-59mph with 11-5 break. Separating his hands later in his motion can help Sam improve as a pitcher. In the field, Sam makes the routine plays and shows a clean exchange to throw. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them accurate to his target. Sam can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and rotates his core well to the ball. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Sam improve as a hitter. With four more years to develop, Sam has the time and potential to further progress his skills on he field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
