06/22/2010 - College PREP - Houston, TX Sam is a young, thin, good sized SS that will graduate in 2012. In the INF, Sam has good footwork and makes plays on balls hit his way. He has good range, an accurate arm, and he works the double play well. Defensive grades can improve if Sam can avoid letting the ball travel too deep, and smooth out his backhand. At the plate, Sam has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has quick hands, good tempo, and a quiet load. Sam makes good use of his lower 1/2, and if he can keep more top hand and avoid recoiling, offensive tool grades can further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
