11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures Texas Sam is an impressive young athlete with serious upside on the baseball field. He showed very well at the Futures event despite being in the middle of his football season where he is a very talented QB. On the baseball field, his lean 6'3" frame is strong and athletic. He swings from the left side and has an extremely short, quick swing. When squared, the ball comes off hard. He showed impressive discipline at the plate walking 3 times and singling the other way in his final bat. As a defender Sam uses his speed (6.82 in the 60) and natural instincts to close on balls. He can stay in CF at the next level. Overall, this is the type of athlete that baseball needs playing its game. More time on the diamond will result in an exciting baseball player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
