05/20/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Sam is an athletic SS/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.31. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He needs to work to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Sam has a lot of potential and will get looks from the college coaches with his baseball abilities.

06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Sam is a well-rounded SS/OF prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2019. As a right-handed hitter, Sam has an athletic, square stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He has fluid, smooth rhythm with a good load and a short stride that maintains direction. He has a direct, on-plane swing path and keeps his hands inside the baseball producing consistent contact. Sam has a line drive approach and maintains a level barrel. At SS, Sam plays with effective footwork and smooth actions to cover good ground. He stays behind the baseball and fields it in an athletic, square position. Sam has a quick, clean exchange leading into a quick arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays through the baseball with good momentum towards his target producing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Sam has a good approach to the game with talent and upside to take his game to the next level.

05/07/2017 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Sam is lean SS/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.39. In the MIF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper angles and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Sam has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he progresses his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
