07/21/2022 - Baseball Factory National World Series at IMG Academy - Session 2 (HS) Sam is a RHP/OF prospect who showcased his skills during the National World Series. On the mound, Sam gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a quick arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Sam operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 74mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits form 59-62mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 69-70mph. Loosening his arm action can help Sam improve his pitch command. In the field, Sam shows active footwork with a quick first step. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws to his target. Sam can build up his arm strength by long tossing. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance with his hands held high. He gets into a simple load and works through a short swing, producing strong line drives. Driving his lower half more can help Sam generate more pop off the barrel. Overall, Sam is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

05/01/2022 - All-In Membership - Trenton, NJ Sam is a young, athletic, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, Sam has active feet, a presentable glove, and agile range. He has a quick 1st step, he makes plays consistently, and his exchange is clean with momentum and accuracy to his target. If Sam can try to work around the ball more, and follow his throws, abilities in the OF will get better. On the mound, Sam has good balance over the rubber, on-time hand separation, and a clean arm action. He gets good extension on his pitches, lands in a square direction toward home, and he throws strikes. Mound effectiveness can improve if Sam can use more lower 1/2 and continue to add arm strength. Offensively, Sam has an athletic stance, an on-time stride, and he can hit to all fields. He works the middle well, swings on-plane, and he uses his lower 1/2. More load and work on balance will help solid hitting get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
