01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Sammy continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon of arm with impressive pop times of 1.88. Offensively, he continues to shine through a squared setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel accuracy (88 mph exit velocity) through a line drive approach with gap to gap pop. Sammy has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from pro scouts with his abilities.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex (Ages 12-14) Sam is a high energy player who makes good adjustments and wants to learn. Behind the plate he displayed good receiving, blocking, and footwork. He needs to stay down in his stance and up the level of focus on a pitch to pitch basis. At the plate, Sam showed a good base, rhythm, and his barrel stays in the zone well. He can improve by adjusting the swing path to be on-plane to the pitch and focusing more on what he is doing each swing/at bat.

08/03/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Cleveland, OH Sam is a solid, athletic catcher. Behind the plate, Sam has firm hands, active feet, and he catches in a low position. He has good flexibility, he gains ground, and he throws with consistency from a short arm action. Offensively, Sam has a square set-up, good balance, and a solid load. He has a level swing, a middle approach, and he uses his lower 1/2. Sam can improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Throw downhill
2. Let ball travel
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Bat speed
2. Strength
3. Finish

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
