12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Alejandro showed solid to above average catching skills, received and blocked well and also showed good feel for the game behind the plate. His footwork, exchange and release to throw were all solid as well - only needs to develop arm strength in order to make gains in his release times. At the plate, he showed some bat speed and did a good job of getting the barrel to contact. Some gap power showed, and he has potential to develop this further as he learns to incorporate his lower half into his swing. Ran 7.59 in the 60-yard dash, down from the 7.63 we saw before.

10/26/2008 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Samuel is athletic and lean. Behind the plate, Samuel has a loose accurate arm, but his footwork can quicken a little to decrease pop times. He receives the ball well with soft hands and a quiet body and he blocks balls in the dirt nicely. He has above average abilities and he can improve them by working on his quickness and a long toss program. At the plate, Samuel has a level swing with above average bat speed. He loses some power potential because he is a little too vertical. Keeping bend in the knees, makes the body more athletic and agile. Overall, Samuel has potential at the next level with some hard work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
