Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

01/08/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (HS) Samuel continues to shine on the diamond. At 1B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. He is a quality receiver at the bag, displaying proper footwork. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-72 mph with sink. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/15/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Moosic (Scranton), PA Samuel showed a spike in radar velocity to 74 MPH as well as offensive upgrades. At the plate, Samuel has a tall stance, he loads his hands well, and stands in with good balance. He has a direct barrel, he swings on plane, and he uses his lower body. At 1st base, Samuel has active feet to the ball, his hands work well, and he fields squarely. He has good bag awareness and a consistent arm to his target. On the mound, this LHP keeps his eyes on target, he has a clean arm circle, and a controlled landing toward home plate. He throws strikes and finishes completely.

11/03/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend (Ages 14-18) Samuel is an athletic and talented pitching prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend. On the bump, Samuel starts in a squared set up and gathers over the rubber. He needs to continue to find a balance point, separate on time, and have a loose arm action. Riding his back leg toward the plate and working north to south will allow him to work over the front side and pound the bottom part of the strike zone. His fastball has sink and long tossing with his changeup will improve his feel for the pitch. Samuel is a hard worker and is very coachable. Samuel will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Moosic (Scranton), PA Samuel is a thin and talented 2021 2-way prospect. At 1B, Samuel is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and works from the ground up. He has a good first step to the ball, plays through the backhand, and shows bag awareness. At the plate, Samuel starts in an open stance, he gets his front foot down on time, and stays balanced through contact. He has a level swing path and drives the ball gap to gap. On the bump, Samuel gathers over the rubber, shows good tempo, and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot. His fastball has tail, his breaking ball has a medium break, and his changeup has downward movement. Samuel will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Samuel is a lean LHP/1B who will graduate in 2021. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range increasing as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 57-59 mph. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 3 years to further develop, Samuel has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
