01/12/2024 - 2024 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Samuel is an athletic 6ft 1/185 left-handed hitting catcher in the 2025 class. He recently impressed scouts at the BF Preseason All American Tournament at IMG Academy. Behind the plate, he shows why he is an exceptional back stop. His feet are active and he always stays square to the target. His pocket has feel and he can redirect with clean actions and stays inline. Arm is loose with a high 3 qtr. slot and is on the bag with a 2.01 pop time. Gains the trust of the staff to work down and expand the zone based upon his excellent blocking techniques. He is quick to the ground and creates a spine angle to deaden the baseball. Recovers with clean and under control actions to prevent the free 90’s. At the plate, he shows fast hands (89 exit velo) and generates hard line drives with powerful backspin. He uses an open stance to gain a short and squared stride. Loads his body properly and stays balanced. Overall, he has a great approach and registered several competitive at bats in games. Scouts love his game and feel he has a high ceiling.

04/23/2023 - National Showcase - San Antonio, TX Samuel is a C prospect who will graduate in 2025. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. At C, he showed active feet with a low/athletic sit. Quick/athletic actions as he gains ground to second base. Works thumb under baseball keeping balls in the strike zone. A quick/clean transfer, with short arm stroke, and a 3/4 release point. Made on-line throws consistently to second base with an arm velocity up to 86mph and a best pop time of 2.0 seconds. Showed good blocking angles with chin tucked. A left-handed hitter, he hits from an athletic and closed stance. A direct barrel path, with intent in swing, and good lower half turn. Showed a fast barrel as he hit line drives consistently into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 87mph. Another 2 years of development should provide Samuel with opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
