Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

10/11/2020 - All-In Membership - Visalia, CA Samuel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Samuel continues to shine on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late downward break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/08/2019 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Samuel is a thin and athletic 2021 2-way prospect. At 2B, Samuel starts in an athletic position, he has efficient footwork to the ball, and a good first step. He has good hands and makes the routine play. At the plate, Samuel starts in an athletic stance, he gets his front foot down on time, and keeps the barrel inside the ball. He hits off a firm front side, creates backside drive with his lower half, and looks to drive the ball gap to gap. On the bump, Samuel gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and has a clean arm action. He repeats his delivery and works downhill. His fastball has late life, he has late break on his curveball, and consistently throws his slider down in the zone. Samuel will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
