10/17/2010 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Sawyer continues to show solid improvements in his catching abilities since we saw him last. He lowered his 60 time from 7.56 to 7.22 and increased his radar velocity from 69 to 74 MPH. Sawyer also improved his arm, receiving, and blocking grades during this event. Behind the plate, Sawyer has loose actions, good sway, and shows soft hands. He handles the low pitch well, he looks the ball in, and he blocks the baseball well. Sawyer also lowered his pop times at the event from 2.4 to 2.28. Abilities behind the plate can get better if he can improve his footwork, and work to throw on a downhill plane. In the OF, Sawyer has playable feet and he tracks the ball well. He fields ground balls cleanly, closes on the ball quickly, and has a decent exchange from glove to hand. Sawyer will need to catch on his glove side, and lengthen his arm action in order to improve OF skills. Offensively, Sawyer has a square set-up, short stride, and good balance. He is aggressive to the ball, he has average bat speed, and he is aggressive to the baseball. Sawyer makes consistent contact, he has a level swing, and a line drive approach. Hitting grades can get better if Sawyer can track the ball better and tap into more lower 1/2.
