  • SSPosition Projection

03/26/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Sawyer is a strong built, talented SS prospect who has an above average skill set on both sides of the ball. As a right-handed hitter, Sawyer has an athletic setup with a firm front side and his weight in the back of his stance. He has a fluid load with a square stride. Sawyer shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path producing consistent contact. He does a nice job getting extension at contact and can drive the ball to each gap. In the field, Sawyer plays with active footwork and good body control. He fields the ball squarely with a firm glove. Sawyer has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball producing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Sawyer is a projectable prospect who has the talent to be an impactful player at the next level.

07/20/2016 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Sawyer is an athletic 2B who will graduate in 2018. In the field, Sawyer uses his feet efficiently and is very agile. He works behind the ball and fields in an athletic position with soft, sure hands. He has a clean exchange to throw with a long action from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate and carry well out of his hand. Sawyer can improve as a defender by working on his lateral quickness. At the plate, Sawyer is a line drive hitter with an open setup. He stays centered throughout his load and uses his lower half well. He sprays the ball all over the field and finishes well with a firm front side. Sawyer can improve as a hitter by raising his hands in his stance and by staying back on the ball. Overall, Sawyer is a talented prospect and with two more years to develop he has the potential to contribute at the next level.

04/17/2016 - College PREP - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Sawyer has really improved his baseball abilities with the makings of a special type player at the next level. Defensive abilities in the MIF are now outstanding, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He shows a low approach and moves well laterally, flashing range. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved as well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level as he shows good barrel accuracy with gap to gap pop. He is strong with strength in his swing with baseball exploding off bat when centered.

07/14/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Sawyer is a SS that showed a good upward trend of growth since his first outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he got to his fielding position on-time, and was sure to field. He threw with the proper footwork to his targets and had a clean arm stroke to get the ball across the diamond. He had feel for his double play feeds and with some more rhythm to field will add ease and boost consistency. At the plate, he had a good base in his stance and got his lower half ready to hit on-time with fluidity. His hands got activated to deliver the barrel on a direct path and used the middle of the field with his approach. More lower half in all that he does on the diamond will boost explosiveness, and he showed an ability to translate practice to game. All in all - Sawyer has attributes people look for at the next level and we look forward at seeing his progress over the next three years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
