03/07/2010 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Saylor is a young, athletic, 2-way player both at SS and behind the plate. In the INF, Saylor presents his glove well and shows sure / soft hands. He makes plays on balls hit his way, uses 2 hands, and follows his flips to 2nd base. If Saylor can add arm strength through a long toss program, start in a lower, more athletic fielding position, and loosen his hips, defensive abilities can improve. Behind the plate, Saylor has a quiet set-up, firm wrist, and centers the ball well on his chest. He covers the 5-hole and takes proper angles when blocking. Saylor gets rid of the ball quickly to his target, and delivers it accurately. If Saylor can work to gain ground, avoid spinning off, and set up a little lower, overall abilities behind the plate can get better. Offensively, Saylor tracks the ball well and flashes some bat speed. He has decent hands, and with a more narrow base, and shorter, more level swing, hitting numbers can improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
