05/20/2018 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Sergio is a talented 2B prospect who works hard on both sides of the ball. In the field, Sergio plays with quick footwork and agile actions as he covers a large territory. He fields the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. Sergio has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball and has a quick release. He shows strong, accurate throws across the diamond. As a right-handed hitter, Sergio has a square setup with a firm front side. He has a load with a short stride. Sergio shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path and quick hands. He gets good separation and consistently lands the barrel to the baseball. Sergio stays insides the baseball and has the ability to spray it to all fields. Overall, Sergio is a scrappy player who has skill on both sides of the ball giving him a bright future on the diamond.

03/26/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Sergio is a strong built 2B/OF prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2019. At 2B, Sergio plays with effective footwork and good body control to give him solid range. He fields the ball squarely with a firm glove. He has a clean exchange leading into a quick release throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Sergio does a nice job playing through the baseball towards his target. He also looks very smooth on slow rollers. In the outfield, Sergio makes all the routine plays and looks especially strong moving to his glove side. He does a nice job playing through the baseball. He has momentum through his release and is building his arm strength. Offensively, Sergio is a leadoff type hitter who has a square, crouched setup. He is developing bat speed and he has a long swing path. Sergio has the talent to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Sergio has a good approach to the game with a well-rounded skill set.

09/04/2016 - National Tryout Plus - San Francisco, CA Sergio is a good athlete who has continued to show improvement in all aspects of his game. He has natural hitting instincts at the plate with a patient approach, taking pitches until he gets the one he wants, and a good idea of the strike zone. His setup at the plate is square, with fluid hands to load and good timing with his stride. He has a direct path to the ball and makes square, line drive contact to collect base hits. He is a steady fielder at second, making plays out in front and throwing accurately to the bases. He takes good routes to balls in the outfield and plays through well to gain momentum to his target to throw. Working on agility will speed up his footwork and lead to more plays he can make in the field. Sergio is a player we look forward to watching progress even more.

07/23/2016 - Factory Development Institute National Select Program Sergio is a hard working player with a great personality. He asks questions and brings it to the field every day. He really improved every day of the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean as he presents on time and out front. He shows off his athletic ability on his feeds of the double play. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is outstanding as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and is a great team player. Sergio has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

04/17/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Sergio continues to show steady progress on his baseball abilities. In the OF, he has improved his defensive abilities. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads well off the bat and works to get behind to play through with momentum to his target. At 2B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and moves well laterally. Glove action is clean and he shows good body control. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Continuing to increase foot quickness will aid in improving range. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side through a line drive type approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

09/06/2015 - National Tryout Plus - San Francisco, CA Sergio shows improvements in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, both in the OF and SS he works to get around the ball with decent feel. He is aggressive and as he works to follow his throws and pick up a strict long toss program, he will see his defensive abilities take a jump. At the plate, he is a contact hitter with a controlled stride and always works hard to make adjustments and get better. As Sergio gains strength and works to use his lower 1/2 he will see more pop in his bat. Overall, Sergio has time on his side as he develops physically and on the diamond.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Sergio is a hard worker who continues to develop. In the OF, he has quick footwork with athletic action and moves well laterally, tracking down fly-balls. He secures the ball with sure hands and works in-line toward his target. He maintains good body control and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He gains ground and makes accurate throws. As a hitter, Sergio has a balanced approach with rhythm in his hands and works back into a loaded position. He tracks pitches into the zone and swings on a level path. Creating more extension through contact will help to increase power at the plate. A 2019 grad - Sergio still has time to fine tune his skills.

07/10/2015 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Sergio showed as a SS at the event and improved his baseball abilities, displaying a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. At SS, defensive grade have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He plays aggressively with his feet, working around ground balls and plays through balls while presenting hands well out front. Feet / hands work well together through the fielding process and shows off his athletic abilities on is his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will improve as he utilizes his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 10 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

04/26/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Union City, CA Sergio is a young (2019 grad) 2-way player (SS/OF) who has an athletic build. At SS, he shows active prep and is aggressive to come and get the ball. He funnels the ball smoothly, has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target at 1B. In the OF, he takes a quick first step with solid routes/angles to track down the fly-ball. He can cover ground and works into position behind he fly-ball. He gains ground toward his target and makes accurate throws to his target. With the bat, Vazquez shows a square setup with good balance. He whips the barrel through the zone, squares the ball up consistently and uses his lower 1/2 well. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
