05/26/2012 - Little League® Experience Shane Manieri is a 2018 graduate who pitches and plays shortstop. In the field Shane has soft and sure hands. He has active footwork and gets to a good athletic fielding position. He has playable range and makes good feeds and pivots well around the bag. At the plate he has an athletic set up with a good load to start his swing. He has fast bat speed, but would like to see him use more of his lower half to generate more power. He makes hard consistent contact and swings a level bat with good timing. On the mound Shane has a good fastball with some sink and is able to pound the zone with this pitch and throw strikes. He uses his lower half well and generates good power with his delivery. He also showed a good change up with some late drop in the zone and with continued improvements on the mound should be a nice Left handed pitcher at the next level.

05/28/2011 - Little League® Experience Shane did a great job at the Little League Experience. He was extremely coachable, listened well and was very eager to learn. On the mound Shane looks like a pitcher. He has a very nice tempo, reaches a good balance point and finishes his pitches well. Throws from a Low 3/4 arm slot and does a good job of maintaining his head position and front side direction throughout his delivery. Must work on extending his arm stroke on the backside towards second. Takes a very short circle on the back side which costs him accuracy and velocity. If this is corrected he will see his velocity and strike throwing improve. At the plate Shane is a nice little hitter. He has a smooth load and takes a short controlled stride. Tends to overload his balance to his backside which does not always allow him to make a good weight transfer into the pitch. Would like to see him work to keep his balance centered better throughout the swing. This will allow him to have better balance and power, and improve his barrel accuracy. Has a good idea of what he is doing at the plate and with a few adjustments will be a very good hitter. Came up with a clutch game winning hit in extra innings to keep his team alive. Great job overall on the weekend.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
