07/09/2024 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Shawn is a gifted 3B in the 2025 class who recently impressed scouts at the Cape Cod Experience. He demonstrated toughness and grit by battling flu symptoms during the camp. Scouts were impressed how he never once complained or used it as an excuse. He was always ready to perform and played hard despite not feeling well. In the field, he showed a solid 1st step and had a relaxed feel around the bag. Plays with aggressive actions and stays square to the baseball. Arm plays at 76 and was described as a strong accurate thrower by scouts. At the plate, he shows a comfortable stance and is loose and free at the plate. Bat speed is 76 and with more hand separation, he will increase his exit velo. Had a solid game with a BB and a RBI groundout in 3 plate appearances. Overall, Shawn is a talented player and will continue to make great strides as he continues his path on the diamond.

12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Shawn is a solid, strong 3B who will graduate in 2025. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he works to square ground balls but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further to develop, Shawn has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
