  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) SheaSaxon showed in the OF/RHP at the event and continues to show improvements. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average at 7.10. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 82 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

06/17/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) ShaeSaxon continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path with lower half working well through the swing. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and moves lightly on the balls of his feet. Range is a plus as reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Transfer is smooth with strong throws through his cut off. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 83 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-83 mph. Breaking ball displaying 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/24/2017 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Shea's frame is beginning to really fill out, which has allowed for greater jumps in his numbers and projection. Defensively, he worked with quick feet to make plays, and made quick adjustments in cleaning up his footwork to throw with life (85 mph raw velo). Increasing the number of reps, live off the bat will boost first steps, routes, and fluidity. Offensively, he was loose delivering the barrel and had surprising pop. He delivers the barrel on a direct path and has even more in the tank when his upper and lower work together more consistently. On the mound, he is athletic and repeats his delivery with a good tempo. He is a hard worker and can continue to improve by staying fluid and trusting his work.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Shea has shown that he is a versatile player. He showcased at this event as a catcher but also played the Outfield where he has shown to project better. Defensively, in the outfield he showed long loose actions with the ability to cover ground. His arm strength his is strongest tool and playing in the OF allows him to showcase that. On the mound, he displayed good rhythm through his delivery. Cook has a good load from the stretch with a controlled finish and landing. He can continue to focus on lengthening his arm action on the backside to improve pitching grades. At the plate his swing was balanced and level with the ability to use the middle of the field. Looser actions in his swing will help with hitting grades. Shea is only a 2019 grad, and he has shown a great deal of improvement over the year. He will be a player to continue to follow.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Shea continued to work well in drills at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City. Defensively in the INF, he worked well to his glove side, getting to a good fielding position on-time. He worked to improve and make his footwork more efficient in the infield to field and through with more momentum. Offensively, he was aggressive through the zone with his swing, generating good bat speed and natural leverage with his frame. He worked to hit to all fields, utilizing contact points more effectively. On the hill, he threw his FB with tail, spun his 11/5 CB and showed his CH with exceptional feel and good movement. His tempo improved from week to week and he drove with his lower half while maintaining the same arm whip. In all - Shea is the type of kid everyone enjoys working with, a quiet hard worker that has strong aptitude.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 SheaSaxon is a coachable player who brings a positive energy to the field everyday. He showed well and made improvements to his game during his time in Pirate City. With the bat, this RHH has fluid rhythm to load, waiting for his pitch. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel through the zone with authority. He barrels the ball up consistently and battles in every at-bat. In the OF, Cook has active footwork as he hustles into position behind the fly-ball. He is sure handed, has a clean exchange and fires strong/accurate throws into his target. On the mound, this RHP throws a FB & CB from a low 3/4 arm slot. Arm action is loose/free/quick as he whips it. FB still sits mid to upper 70's while showing tail. He has a good feel for his breaking ball as it shows 10/4 shape with gradual action. Being more consistent on the release point of it will help to improve effectiveness. A 2019 grad - Cook has a plus makeup and is a hard worker who wants to get the best out of himself.

04/06/2015 - College PREP - Dubai, UAE Shea is a very consistent ball player on all sides of the Baseball. In his first outing with Baseball Factory, he showed an ability to spray the ball to all fields with a good idea in the box and natural rhythm. He showed a direct bat path to get the barrel through the zone, utilizing his hands and hips together. Keeping his lower half square and hitting off a stiff frontside, eliminating his front side leak, is key to further development, at the plate. Behind the dish, he receives with ready hands and anticipates down to block, covering up with the glove and deadening the ball. Setting up with a wider base will help Shea move more efficiently and athletically. On the hill, he threw his FB from 74-77, and spun an 11/5 CB from 64-65. Mechanically, he had some decent feel as he worked in good direction to the plate and pounded the zone. Finding a more consistent tempo and pace within his delivery will help to boost fluidity and consistency with all pitches. Overall - Shea is a very projectable player with a long/lean frame and solid fundamentals.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
