01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Castro continues to show plus abilities behind and at the plate. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.61 runner. Arm strength is outstanding displaying life, carry, and accuracy to his target. Pop times showed a range of 1.98 -2.08 and he threw a runner out with a 2.04 pop time in a game. Hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively, Spencer shows plus bat speed to and through the baseball with ball jumping off his bat as power grades have improved. He was 3 for 6 with a 2B and 3B at the event.

11/15/2009 - College PREP - Miami Shores, FL Spencer is a C, with a strong lower 1/2, and a high waist. Behind the plate, he has good hands, good arm action, and a pop time as low as 1.97. He is firm and relaxed receiving the ball, and gets low, wide, and centers the ball when blocking. He shows good athleticism behind the dish, and could get even better if he can quicken his feet a bit. At the plate, Spencer is strong, and shows good bat speed and barrel accuracy. He has a good approach at the plate and is able to work gap to gap. If Spencer can get a little more extension through the hitting zone, we could see already solid numbers get even better!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
