06/02/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Spencer continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Fastball showed a range of 86-91 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and works to get ahead, utilizing both sides of the plate. Defensively at 1B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Exchange is clean with strong throws. Backhand is smooth with a quick release. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (100 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. Spencer has big upside and will get looks from pro scouts with his baseball abilities.

10/28/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Spencer is an exciting 2-way prospect (LHP/1B) with an extremely projectable frame. He stands at 6'7"/195 pounds and gets great downhill plane to all of his offerings on the mound. His fastball sat 88-89 mph during his dominant outing in which he struck out 4 of the 5 hitters he faced. He did most of his damage with the fastball, as it has late life and hitters did not seem to pick it up well out of the hand. Spencer has a clean arm with some effort to the release after a mechanically sound delivery. He also throws a curve that flashed late break and a change that he only needed to throw warming up on this night. He mixed in a 2-seamer at 85 mph, as well, that had good arm-side run. Spencer also impressed as a position player with a coordinated LH stroke that produced line drives to all fields in batting practice. He is most comfortable using the middle of the field, though he does have some pull side power (97 mph exit velocity) that will continue to emerge. Athletic (6.82 in the 60) and a good target at 1B, he is an advanced defender as well. With the ability to impact games in a variety of ways, Spencer is a unique prospect with a very high ceiling.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
