Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues shine through athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a short / direct / level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Spencer shined at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the OF, he continues to shine. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range (6.81 60 time) as he covers a ton of ground. At the plate, he showed a closed setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, this righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball showed a range of 76-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/25/2019 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Spencer continues to show lots of improvements in his baseball abilities and has the makings of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a tremendous runner at 6.81. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved, now displaying outstanding tools through a tall, athletic setup. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. In the OF not many balls get down that are hit his way. Transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws (80 mph velocity) on a line through his target but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively.

At the plate, Spencer starts in an athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He gets his backside through the ball and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and keeping his head down at contact will allow him to get extension through the zone. On the bump, Spencer gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and throws strikes. Continuing to have good tempo in his delivery and finishing over the front side will allow him to work the bottom half of the zone. Spencer will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
