05/14/2017 - College PREP - Colorado Springs, CO Spencer is a lean, athletic SS who has a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 60 time of 6.69. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has excellent strength in his swing with the baseball coming off the bat a little differently. Lower half works well through the swing with gap to gap pop. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities in his feeds / turns of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Spencer has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
