02/20/2017 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Sterling is a broad, strong SS and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay in inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered with gap-to-gap pop. In the MIF, he displays clean / athletic actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Sterling has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
