07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Stevyn continues to show a promising future on the diamond with improvements in his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.13. At the plate, power potential is now well above average through a closed setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/30/2017 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA Stevyn is a versatile RHP/OF prospect who has an athletic build and graduates in 2020. On the mound, Stevyn has a balanced delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He maintains eye contact with his target and engages his hips throughout his motion. Stevyn nicely pivots off his back foot and has a controlled landing. He has good run on his fastball at 75-79 MPH. Stevyn throws both a curveball and a slider as well as a knuckleball. Offensively, Stevyn has a tall stance with a centered balance. He has a good load and maintains direction with his stride as his lower half leads his swing. Stevyn has an on-plane swing path that produces square contact. He is a line drive hitter who can drive the ball to the opposite field. In the outfield, Stevyn plays with active footwork and gets a good jump on balls. He covers good ground and gets around the ball to field it squarely. He fields it with a firm glove and he has a clean exchange leading into a quick arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Overall, Stevyn has a well-rounded skill set and upside to get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
