03/21/2010 - College PREP - Bowie, MD TJ is a young, average sized Catcher with sound, basic skills. His footwork is good behind the plate and his is inline to his target. He has a clean exchange and his throws are accurate to his target. He has a firm wrist, he looks the ball in, and is relaxed when receiving. He takes good angles when blocking, and is not afraid to put his body in front of the ball. TJ can improve defensively if he can avoid standing up early, widen his base, and keep a more still glove. At the plate, TJ has good balance and okay bat speed. He has a simple swing, good load, and he gets good extension through the ball. If TJ can avoid spinning off the ball and level off his swing, offensive tool grades can improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
