07/19/2010 - College PREP - Carrollton (DFW), TX TJ is a young catcher with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Feet are active in working in line with target, gaining ground with pop times showing a range of 2.56-2.60 through a long transfer / exchange. He will benefit by getting on a long toss program to provide more carry and lowering pop times. Receiving and blocking skills are below average, needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively, Shipp shows a balanced approach and makes consistent contact ball but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, TJ has abilities with a lot of room and time to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
