Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Ta'Shawn worked out at both 3B and on the mound during his time in Omaha. Defensively, Ta'Shawn has soft hands, fluid footwork, and his range is solid. He makes plays, his exchange is quick, and he can throw from multiple arm slots with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Ta'Shawn works quick, he pounds the zone, and he mixes his pitches well. Offensively, Ta'Shawn has a good set-up, good bat speed, and he makes hard contact through a level swing.

07/31/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training at Vero Beach Grubbs continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in work to square ball up and displays clean hands. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to play through balls more and present hands out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting grades / power numbers have improve as well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He loads well and shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 5.

06/03/2012 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Ta'Shawn is an athletic young infielder that will graduate in 2015. At the plate, he shows a square stance, solid load and short stride. He has good balance throughout the swing and has good bat speed for a player his size. He shows good barrel accuracy getting good extension after contact and using the entire field. He needs to get more out of his lower half and overall strength will help him drive the ball more. In the field, he has active feet, reads hops well, and has a quick exchange to throw. He stays square to the ball making consistent throws to his target but is more a second baseman type player. Ta'Shawn is a solid player for his age and with some work and strength he will continue to mature as a ball player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
