Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

08/05/2010 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2010 Chauvin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Hitting grades have improved as he shows quick hands that work through the baseball as he makes good adjustments at the plate. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. He was 2 for 5 at the event. Defensively, hands work well through the fielding process and display a clean exchange in getting rid of the baseball. He flashes big play potential. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-80 mph on a solid downhill plane. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action.

06/09/2010 - College PREP - Jupiter, FL Tanner showed similar abilities in Jupiter as he did at the Cape Cod Training. On the mound, Tanner has a simple delivery and is quick to the plate. His FB touches 82 MPH and he has developed some A/S run. Tanner needs to improve command, body control, and stay tall in order for pitching abilities to get better. At SS, Tanner has a good pre-pitch routine and nice footwork. He makes plays on balls hit his way, and shows soft hands. A quicker exchange and looser overall actions will help Tanner's tool grades at SS improve. Offensively, Tanner is an aggressive hitter that keeps his hands back nicely. He has a level swing path, he can work the ball to all fields, and he know the strike zone. A better load, improved body control, and more use of his lower 1/2 should help hitting numbers climb, as he further grows and matures. Overall, Tanner is still a young player with potential. Work in the proper areas will elevate Tanner's game.

07/21/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 3 Tanner is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound and at SS with a solid average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. Glove action is deep and will improve as he plays through balls more with his feet. Arm strength is average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, hitting abilities are near average with average power. He shows some strength in his swing, flashing bat speed but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-78 mph. Off speed pitches are average to near average and needs further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 3 years to further develop, Tanner has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
