11/18/2012 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN It has been two years since Tanner's latest Factory outing, and he has shown superb growth. The 2013 catcher showed remarkably well in every tool grade. Behind the dish, he is well schooled in receiving, displaying a low target. He deadens the ball in blocking with good flexion in his hips and is able to quickly recover. His feet continue to work fluidly to throw with excellent life and accuracy. One area to improve on is in his blocking where he gets very vertical. At the plate, he has a square/athletic setup, good rhythm, quick hands, and good extension through contact. He generates fast bat speed with explosive flashes. He makes consistently hard contact and is on-time. At times, he gets in and out of the zone quickly and forgets to trust his contact points. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes with his fastball topping out at 92 MPH with late arm side run. His curve-ball has 10/4 shape and his splitter has late downward movement sitting from 76-84 MPH. Tanner has a good delivery, staying inline to the dish with on-time separation and level shoulders. Working to get more arm extension over the front and finding a repeatable, complete finish will help his pitching. Overall, Tanner is a very promising prospect that can perform at an extraordinary level.
