11/11/2010 - Pirate City Select Training Tanner is a young, 2-way player that plays 2nd base and RHP. Defensively, Tanner has soft hands, playable feet, and he fields the ball cleanly. He turns a nice double play, he moves well laterally, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Normal growth and maturity along with added arm strength will help defensive grades further improve. On the mound, Tanner shows good athleticism, he works to his balance point well, and he attacks hitters. Tanner can throw off-speed pitches for strikes in any count, he competes in the zone, and he fields his position nicely. Mound effectiveness can further improve by keeping his front side closed, improving his tempo, and by keeping a consistent arm slot. At the plate, Tanner has an athletic / balanced stance, a level swing, and he competes in the box. He has a compact swing, sneaky power on occasions, and he puts the ball in play. Hitting can get better by not stepping in the bucket and throwing his hands more directly to the baseball.
