08/15/2009 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Tanner is a young two-way player as a catcher and in the OF with a thick, solid body that shows projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot speed is well below average and he must get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active in working in line to his target showing plus body control. He needs to work on coming out lower with his hands and feet working together through the throwing process. Arm strength is near average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength, lowering pop times. Pop times show a range of 2.33-2.47. Receiving skills are slightly above average showing a solid setup with a soft glove action. Blocking skills are well below average and need further development to play at the next level. In the 3B, defensive abilities are well below average as he projects best as a catcher at the next level. At the plate is where Young shows best showing solid average abilities and power through a balanced approach. Swing path is level and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He keeps the barrel through the ball at contact, displaying extension. With 2 years to further develop, Tanner has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
