05/07/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Bowie, MD Tanner improved his pop times behind the plate as he threw his lowest to date at 2.23. He shows a quick exchange and has accuracy on his throws with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process. At the plate, hands are strong and he shows a solid feel for the barrel. He utilizes his lower half well with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed in the mid 70 range. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape and he has good arm side run to his changeup.

08/04/2016 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Tanner continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. At the plate, he has improved his power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.50 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. He is a vocal leader on the field and shows a solid feel for the game. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop.

05/15/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bowie, MD Tanner is a solid 2-way prospect who continues to progress. Behind the plate, he sits in well with quiet/athletic actions. He gains ground toward 2B as he fires from a strong arm - pop times now at 2.26. With the bat, Tanner remains balanced as he has fluid rhythm to load. He barrels the ball up and looks to drive it back the middle of the field. Engaging more of his lower 1/2 will result in increased pop off of the barrel. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, SL) as he pounds the zone. He stays directional and repeats well. FB still sits in the low 70's as he works to keep it down in the zone. More glove side lead along with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Zinn has upside (2018 grad) with still time to fine tune his skills.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Tanner is a solid 2-way player who continues to progress. At the plate, this strong righty shows a square setup with rhythm to load. He whips the barrel quickly with speed through a level path and spays the ball to all parts of the field. Behind the dish, he sits in well with quiet actions presenting a low target. He uses his body well and centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest. He gains ground in-line toward 2B - pop times at 2.50. Strengthening his arm (long toss) as well as working to quicken his exchange will help to lower pop times. On the mound, this RHP has repeatable mechanics and a smooth delivery. Arm works loose & free as he pounds the zone with strikes. FB now tops out at 76 mph. Slider has good action as it shows to be a sold 'K' pitch. Finishing with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Tanner has upside with still time to develop (2018 grad).

03/22/2015 - National Tryout - Bowie, MD Tanner continues to work hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well and receives with a soft mitt. He has a clean exchange and puts the ball accurately to 2B (pop times of 2.59). Using his lower 1/2 to gain ground toward his target will help to add velocity and lower pop times. Offensively, this righty shows a balanced approach with patience. He whips the barrel through the zone with bat speed and connects, as the ball jumps off of his barrel. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. Only a 2018 grad - Tanner has skills with a lot of time to develop.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Tanner is a talented to way player that plays 1B and also pitches. At 1B he fields with soft/sure hands, uses the proper footwork with his approach, and is aggressive to the ball. He works well around the bag and is excellent at picks. At the plate he has an open stance, good balance, and he uses his lower half well. He keeps a still head and consistently squared up the ball during games and BP. On the mound Tanner has a solid mound presence and works quick. His delivery is fluid and he pounds the zone with his fastball and curve. With his big / strong body, Tanner will continue to improve and be a player to watch in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
