07/09/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.22. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying sure hands as he makes the plays. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-70 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Tate is a long, lean two-way prospect who continues to fill out his frame and improve on the fields. He has made great strides at the plate with his bat path and ability to square up the ball consistently. He is balanced in the box and gets on time with his front foot to launch. He shows a level path to the ball with good rotation in his lower body to make consistent, solid contact. At short, he shows the footwork to surround the ball and field to center, keeping everything in front. He keeps his eyes low to field and shows a clean exchange to help get rid of the ball on feeds and throws. On the mound, he attacks the zone with good command of both pitches as he tries to work ahead in the count. His fastball sits at 70mph with arm side run and his curveball has good 10-4 shape as he works on a downward angle to the hitter. Getting through all of his pitches to finish will add action moving forward. Tate is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
