Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

07/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Tate is a projectable (6'0"/170) 2-way player as a RHP/OF. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from an over-the-top arm slot and free/clean arm action. He has smooth separation, keeps his eyes on the target and repeats well. He commands his FB to both sides of the plate throwing it for strikes consistently - 72-73 mph. Curveball has 10/4 shape with early action - 61-62. Changeup has slight cut and compliments his FB well. In the OF, he has active prep and good routes to track down fly-balls. She secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean transfer to throw. With the bat, this righty shows a tall/open stance with patience. He takes a hack and looks to drive the ball back up the middle of the field. Ramey is a skilled 2-way player who has upside as he enters his junior year.

07/16/2019 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Tate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a four pitch mix in his arsenal. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 58-61 mph with 11/5 shape gradual break. Changeup sits from 59-61 mph with cutting action. Slider has tight spin with short break. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Tate is a tall, lean RHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate. With 4 years to further develop, Tate has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
