01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Nichols has really improved his abilities at the plate. He tracks the ball well, keeping hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Bat speed is present and he displays juice and leverage in his swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered as he drives the baseball. He will benefit by squaring up his stance and getting front foot down sooner. Pop times were in the 1.86 to 1.99 range with the baseball exploding out of his hand. Taylor is athletic and now a class 3 type player.

07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Taylor continues to show improvement in his baseball abilities. Pop times continue to show the ability to control the running game at the next level as he was 1.99-2.12 at the event. Footwork to throw is solid and he shows a quick release. At the plate, Nichols improved his power grades to near above average. Swing path is long but shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side through a balanced approach.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
