01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Payne continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.15 runner. Offensively, he lets the ball travel, keeping hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to load more and transfer weight properly through the swing. Showed a loose and easy arm action during the games. He continues to attack with his fastball.

12/19/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #1 Taylor showed for the first time on the mound and now projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength has also improved as he topped out at 86 mph on a downhill plane, creating tough angles on hitters. Breaking ball displays downward tilt with early break. He shows a sound mound prescence. He controls the running game with his composure and pickoff moves.

12/06/2009 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Taylor is a tall, lanky OF/3B that will graduate in 2010. At 3B, he has good footwork and a soft glove. He fields the ball in a low, athletic position, and releases the ball quickly and accurately across the diamond. Taylor's throws have life and carry to them, but sometimes he is a little long in this throwing motion. In the OF, Taylor tracks the baseball well, and works to surround it. He again shows off a strong, accurate throwing arm from the OF. At the plate, Taylor has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a strong, aggressive swing, and makes consistent and solid contact. If Taylor can work on a proper load, and get extension through the baseball, he will become an even better hitter to go along with solid OF and INF skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
