Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Taylor continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, especially in the OF where he projects best. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 69 time to date, now a sub 7 runner at 6.90. He utilizes his outstanding foot speed in taking proper routes / angles and gets behind balls more, playing through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but has improved his abilities from the right side. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. He throws a slider that shows 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program.

12/19/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Taylor is a solid athlete and showed very well with the glove in the outfield at Pirate City. He took mature routes to the ball and showed the ability to cover a lot of ground. He gets pretty good carry out of his arm, but needs to consistently stay on top of his throws. His arm slot can drop a notch at times. The switch hitter showed similar to what we have seen him in the past. He gets to a good launch position with his hands and stays inside the ball. Bat speed is above average and his swing path is direct. From the right side, he gets going a little bit late. He also utilizes a lot of effort in the swing. On the mound, his fastball gets out of his hand with good life. His delivery is in line with rhythm, but would like to see him separate a little earlier and level out his shoulders as he tends to get uphill with them. He's a two-position guy with some solid physical and mental attributes. Should be a nice college player.

11/04/2012 - College PREP - Austin, TX Taylor is a solid, athletic RHP that will graduate in 2014. Delivery is sound / repeatable displaying proper mechanics that allows his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Arm action is long and easy through a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows a range of 79-84 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with sinking action. Slider resembles breaking ball but is much harder. Off speed pitches show as a quality pitches at the next level. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise quickly as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Sorensen has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
