03/28/2010 - College PREP - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Thomas is a young, lean Catcher with some potential. He has quick actions behind the plate, he squares his body up well, and anticipates action. Thomas has a stiff stance, he lets the ball travel, and he presents his glove well. He is not afraid to throw his body in front of the ball, and he works to surrounds it. Added arm strength through long toss, and a softer chest when blocking will help Thomas improve defensively. At the plate, Thomas has okay hands and bat speed. He can spray the ball to all fields but needs to let it travel deeper into the hitting zone. Added physical strength and more use of his lower 1/2 should also help his hitting numbers climb.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
