11/05/2023 - National Showcase - Milton, NY Thomas is a 2025 3B/RHP prospect with a thin, lean frame at 6'0" 140 pounds. At third, he does a great job pre-pitch of getting in a ready position and shows off quick, efficient movements to the ball. He moves with good rhythm to all angles and gains ground easily to both the backhand and glove side. He gets in an athletic, low, squared fielding position and presents his hands out in front when fielding. He has a clean, quick exchange and makes accurate, consistent throws to his targets with a quick release. His arm plays at the position and has room for growth. At the plate, he starts in an athletic, tall, open stance and has a short stride with a good load. He displays smooth rhythm and timing and does a great job of keeping his balance centered through contact. He lets his lower half work through the baseball and has a direct, on-plane bat path to the baseball. He has a middle approach and makes hard, consistent contact to all fields. On the mound, he throws from a high 3/4 slot and has an easily repeatable motion. He gathers his balance over the rubber and gets on-time separation. He has a quick arm action and does a great job of staying squared when driving to the plate. He has good feel for the strike zone, especially with his FB that he can work on both sides of the plate. His CB projects as his out pitch and he shows off late break with the pitch. He throws his CH with FB arm speed and works the pitch down in the zone. Overall, Thomas is an exciting prospect that we are looking forward to seeing more of as he continues to develop!

06/29/2023 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Thomas is an athletic OF/RHP who will graduate in 2025. In the OF, he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Thomas has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
