Official Scouting Report

  • SSPosition Projection

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Ashburn (DC), VA Thomas is a MIF who can swing it. At the plate - he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack - crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 93 mph). At SS, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws (93 mph velocity) zipping across the diamond. A projectable MIF - Thomas will play at a very high level and make an immediate impact.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Thomas showed well in his most recent outing improving facets of his game. Defensively, Thomas is a talented SS with smooth, athletic actions. He fields the ball out front with sure hands and a solid BH. On the mound, this RHP kept a good tempo throughout his outing with the ability to keep hitters off balance with his 2-pitch mix. He sat in the high 70s with a late breaking 10-4 slider. Offensively, Thomas showed a balance, controlled approach at the plate with a middle of the field mindset. He fired his backside through with quick, strong hands. Thomas is a next level player with a bright future in the game.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex (Ages 12-14) Thomas is a very athletic, young versatile player. In the infield he moves very well, has a good arm, takes good angles, and can get to everything. He needs to improve his body control and field the ball further in front of his body. On the mound, Thomas is a RHP who hides the ball well, goes after hitters, and uses his legs very well. He can improve by finishing his pitches and keeping his hips closed a little longer. At the plate, Thomas has very good pop, is very balanced, and extends well through contact. He opens his hips and pulls his head a little too early. Thomas is very coachable, and is a very polite player.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Thomas is a young athletic SS/RHP. Defensively, he displays sure hands with good footwork working from right to left. His fielding position is solid with his hands out in front. He can continue to build on the fundamental aspects in the infield improving foot speed. On the mound, Thomas has good rhythm and control to his delivery. He showed good direction, separation and balance in his mechanics. Thomas shows that he can throw three pitches for strikes and can work on making sure he finishes with consistency on his backside. At the plate, he displays good rhythm to his swing with an aggressive approach. Thomas showed a good load getting his hands back, he will need to let the ball travel and level out his swing path to improve hitting grades. Overall, Thomas is a confident player with good communication skills, he will continue to see improvement as he physically matures.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
