12/07/2014 - College PREP - McCook (Chicago), IL Thomas is a young, lean 3B that will graduate in 2017 with a lot of room to continue to fill out. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.30 60 time. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he attacks, play through, and move well laterally, displaying range. Hands are clean and on time as he presents well out front. He plays hard with a lot of energy and shows big play potential. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, displaying well above average arm strength. At the plate, he shows a squared setup and loads well, getting into a strong launch position. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he works to and through the ball, creating extension. He shows an aggressive approach and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the middle of the field well. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to level out swing path. With 3 years to further develop, Thomas has the makings of a special type player that will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
