Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

11/16/2008 - ACR-E - California - 6 Tim continues to show improvement in all areas of his game. He ran his best 60 time to date and has improved overall body strength. Currently, he does project best at 1B for the next level but also could add a quality arm out of the bull pen making him a possible two way guy. He threw a split finger that is shows as his best off speed pitch. He also showed a breaking ball for the first time that was inconsistent at times and needs to stick with his slider. In the infield, Leary continues to show improvement with his defensive abilities at 1B. With his tall, broad frame, he presents a solid target and will save throws with his soft hands and ability to pick the baseball. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength. At the plate is where Tim shows show best and has improved his hitting grades. He displays quick hands through a short, compact path that generates plus bat speed. He keeps hands inside the baseball, spraying balls to all fields. He has outstanding power to all fields as he keeps the barrel through the baseball at contact. The ball jumps off his bat when centered. Leary will get some looks from the college coaches, especially those in need of a power hitting first baseman.

07/29/2008 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2008 Tim is a tall, burly player that has good upside on the mound and at the plate. As a pitcher, Timothy came in to multiple games, and he improved with each time he took the mound. He has good movement on his pitches and has a good grasp of challenging hitters to put the ball in play. He struggled in early outings, then bounced back to pitch his team out of multiple games. At the plate, Tim showed a stroke that was very pull oriented, however, as the week went on, he worked and showed some improvement. His contact ability will increase as he works to keep his hands inside, making him dangerous to all pitchers. Overall, Tim is a raw, talent. Awaiting a college coach to develop and refine his mental aptitude, mechanics on the mound and at the plate. He should get the opportunity to develop in all areas at the next level.

02/10/2008 - College PREP - El Cajon, CA Timothy shows as a two-way player on the mound and at 1B. He currently projects best at 1B where he displays above average ability. He moves well around the bag and displays a lot of athletic actions. His hands are soft and he consistently showed the ability to pick throws out of the dirt. He has a tall frame and makes a perfect target at 1B. At the plate, Timothy shows some strength in his swing displaying above average power. He loads well and shows quick hands through the zone. Timothy is big and strong with a ton of raw ability.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
