01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Tom continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his arm (85 mph velocity) with impressive pop times of 2.03. Offensively, he continues to shine through an open setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel accuracy (through a line drive approach.

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tom continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.12 with accuracy and zip (83 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 4 with 2 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player, coachable, and plays the game hard.

02/10/2019 - College PREP - Douglasville (Atlanta), GA Tom is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.18-2.31 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields well through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Tom has a ton of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
