02/02/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Mobile, AL Trace once again showed upgrades in his game during his workout in Mobile, AL. He increased radar velocity to 69 MPH and hitting grades to 35's. At 3B, Trace has active feet, he covers ground, and he fields athletically. He fields smoothly, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action across the diamond. On the mound, Trace has an athletic delivery, he works on a downhill plane, and he gets good extension on his pitches. Offensively, Trace has quick hands, an athletic stance, and good balance. He has a fast/direct barrel, he can hit gap to gap, and he uses his lower 1/2.

10/13/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Trace increased arm velocity to 64 MPH and exit velocity to 73 MPH during his last workout in Hoover, AL. At 3B, Trace has active feet, a presentable glove, and he covers ground well. He has a good 1st step to the ball, his exchange is clean, and he throws with carry across the diamond. On the mound, Trace has good balance and a loose arm action. He separates his hands on time, lands with good direction toward the plate, and keeps his eyes on target. At the plate, this RHH has a square stance and stride, and good strength. He swings on plane, makes solid contact, and he can work the ball to all fields.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Trace is a lean and athletic 2024 2-way prospect that tried to make adjustments all week. He has a positive attitude and competes everyday. At the hot corner, Trace needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, present a low/early glove, and work from the ground up. At the plate, Trace starts in a squared stance and rotates his backside through the ball. Getting to balance and keeping his head down at contact are two priorities for his hitting. He also needs to continue to load his hands back and be aggressive on fastballs in the strike zone. On the bump, Trace gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and throws strikes. Working downhill and riding his back leg will improve his ability to pound the bottom of the zone. Trace will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

05/05/2019 - Accelerated Interactive Video Program - New Orleans, LA Trace is a RHP/3B prospect who will graduate in 2024. On the mound, Trace gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. His fastball tops out at 59mph. In the field, Trace fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a clean exchange. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He drives through well with his lower half and produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to solid gap to gap pop. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Extend through release
2. Lower half drive
3. Develop off speed
Infield
1. Footwork
2. Lateral range
3. Lower fielding position
Hitting
1. Smoother load
2. Shorter swing path
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
