04/13/2014 - College PREP - Grand Rapids, MI Trace is a switch hitting sophomore backstop with a 5'11/190 lbs frame. Defensively, he showed very well, sitting quietly with good body control, and receiving with good rhythm and sure hands. He has a clean exchange and life to his accurate arm. Continuing to work hard on being consistent to present and anticipate down to block will increase his defensive ability. Offensively, he showed best from the right side, with quiet actions and a quick barrel to contact. He had a middle approach and stayed strong through contact. From the left side, he got the barrel to and through the zone, but has a tendency to drift too much with his lower half and drag through contact. In all - Trace has good defensive ability and should continue to work at both sides of the plate for switch hitting success.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
